Charles Leclerc doubles up in Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS

The driver from Monaco will long remember the Monza weekend, as after having seized Race 1 he doubled up in Race 2.

Race 2 proved to be extremely exciting with the fight for top positions involving several drivers like Matevos Isaakyan (JD Motorsport), second, but chased to the line by both Dario Capitanio (BVM Racing) and Alessio Rovera (Cram Motorsport)

A positive result for Pietro Fittipaldi (MGR Motorsport), who raced convincingly in Race 1 but was slowed down but a technical issue, and took fifth in Race 2.

The start proved to be quite animated with early contact at the first chicane ainvolving Ben Barnicoat, Stefan Riener and Denis Korneev, with the latter found responsible and thus penalized with a five grid positions on the next event (10 grid positions of penalty for Yuan Bo and four also for Martin Kodric).

The best start was made by Isaakyan cabable in passing the polesitter Leclerc who came back on lap 3 with an amazing maneuver at the end of the main straight. Behind the leading duo Capitanio who slipped by Rovera retaking the position lost at the start. The last laps saw the close fight for second place with Capitanio trying to find a gap to pass Isaakyan and Rovera smart enough to exploit the situation and take third achieving his second podium in a row on his home track.

“Today, as yesterday, my start was not perfect. My pace was good though and thus I could managed to defend the leadership. This is a weekend to remember and I’ve even partially closed the gap on de Vries”. - were Leclerc’s words. The engine of the Leclerc’s car will undergo further investigation in Oreca and so the result is still pending.

Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS will be back on the 6-7 September weekend on the Italian Mugello track.
