First entries confirmed for the Race Retro classic car sale 2016

Silverstone Auctions be hosting a sale at the prestigious classic car event, Race Retro, one of Europe's premier historic motorsport shows, held at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, on the 27th and 28th February 2016.

Now in its fifth year, the sale has become a highlight of the weekend's action. Following the huge success of the 2015 Race Retro sale, which achieved a number of world record prices, the 2016 sale promises to be even better.

They will be offering an impressive selection of classic cars and modern sports cars, alongside automobilia and luxury lifestyle items, and with the sale still 11 weeks away, first entries to the auction have already been consigned..

Entries include:

1958 'Works' MGA Twin Cam Roadster

A fantastic opportunity to own a BMC competition-department ‘works’ car, the first to be officially entered into an international event, the 1958 Liege-Rome-Liege Rally. Driven by John Gott and navigated by Ray Brookes, the car accomplished an incredible 10th place overall and 4th in class.

Presented in lovely condition, this example is a testament to its four previous enthusiastic owners. The accompanying history file contains lots of period items including more than a dozen motorsport magazine articles describing the car’s life and times.

1960 Jaguar XK150 Drophead Coupé

Manufactured on 8th March 1960, this original 3.8 litre XK150 Drophead Coupé was sold new by Jaguar Cars New York and was subsequently repatriated to the UK prior to restoration.

Finished in its original colour combination of Cotswold Blue with matching Dark Blue interior and blue hood, the car underwent a complete body off restoration approximately 15 years ago by respected marque specialists XK Engineering. It has been used sparingly since and is accompanied by a lovely history file.

This car is a fine example of the model and would take pride of place in any Jaguar collection.

1970 MGC GT Competition-Spec Race Car with period history

A modified MGC, raced in period by Mark Burnside. This 'C' GT is a very quick car having held a number of lap records in its day and now offers numerous options for competition.

The car benefits from an engine rebuild, carried out by Steve James Engineering in 2010, during which new Cosworth pistons, valves and new valve seats were incorporated, among other adjustments.

With a good period history, there is always the prospect of gaining historic papers offering access to a number of glamorous international events, or it could happily be used as a reliable, much admired, weekend club racer.
