Mickel and Hodgson go Head to Head at Rockingham
SCSA Champions Battle for Title Lead This Sunday
This weekend Rockingham hosts rounds 3 & 4 of the 2005 SCSA Racing Championship and Torquespeed team mates John Mickel (#66 dsi nexdox) and Stevie Hodgson (#24 Team Xerox) are neck-and-neck at the top of the drivers table following the opening rounds on May 1st.
Reigning SCSA Champion Stevie Hodgson set the pace in the first, action packed race of 2005, taking the win just ahead of 2001 champion John Mickel. Mickel’s main rival in 2001, Dutchman Michael Vergers (#28 NEC Team West-Tec), took the final podium position.
In race two, the roles were reversed when John Mickel took the advantage following the mid race pitstops and lifted the winners trophy for the first time since October 2001. Stevie Hodgson battled hard with his team mate but Mickel wasn’t going to be denied the win. Vergers added a second 3rd place to his tally.
In the Rookie Championship for new drivers to SCSA Hunter Abbott (#26 Team Ryanair) was the pace setter but he got caught up in an accident on the opening lap of the first race. With a patched up car he scored some useful points but it was 19-year-old Adam Jackson (#4 Spearmint Rhino) who leads the Rookie title chase after finishing 6th and 9th in both races.
As well as the two Stock Car races on Sunday 5th June there will be two further oval races with the SCSA Pickup Trucks. Off track entertainment includes a live concert by Tony Christie, with support by Steve Edwards and Carolynne Good. There will stunt displays by Terry Grant, a demonstration by the California Superbike School and a Drift Car demonstration ahead of the GT Battle event taking place at Rockingham on 25th June. There will be a funfair, the Playmobile Activity Centre and other family entertainment, so for a great day out Rockingham is the place to be.
