Westbrook tops testing at Brands
Richard Westbrook set the pace in testing ahead of rounds five and six of the Carrera Cup GB at Brands Hatch yesterday The championship leader headed a pack of very closely matched cars as Damien Faulkner, Tim Harvey and Jason Templeman all lapped within six tenths of a second of Westbrook's fastest time. The stage is set for two thrilling races on the all-action Indy circuit at the famous Kent track as Westbrook returns to the Carrera Cup after spending the last two weekends racing in the Porsche Supercup at Monaco and the Nurburgring. Now, Brands Hatch is his focus in the Red Line Racing Porsche and he dipped under the 48s barrier in the second test session to head the times, with a best of 47.992s. That is a lap three-tenths of a second inside the existing lap record, but just outside the pole time set by Jason Templeman a year ago.Faulkner (Team Parker Racing), Harvey (Team RPM) and Templeman (Team Parker Racing) are all chasing Westbrook hard and all lap set low 48s laps as the morning session proved generally slightly faster. An excellent fifth fastest went to Stephen Shanly (Red Line Racing), who was a fraction faster than his team mate Jason Young. Meanwhile, Susie Stoddart made a strong Carrera Cup debut in the Porsche Cars with Team Autosport VIP car to set a top 10 time. Unfortunately, the day ended with a hefty accident at Paddock Hill Bend for Michael Corridan (Team Parker Racing) and it seems likely that his car will be out of action for the rest of the weekend.Leading times:1 Richard Westbrook (Red Line Racing) 47.992s2 Damien Faulkner (Team Parker Racing) 48.358s3 Tim Harvey (Team RPM) 48.393s4 Jason Templeman (Team Parker Racing) 48.655s5 Stephen Shanly (Red Line Racing) 48.991s6 Jason Young (Red Line Racing) 49.102s
