Shanly gets Carrera driver of the day
Stephen Shanly was named as the Carrera Cup GB driver of the day at Brands Hatch on Sunday (5 June). Shanly is the third recipient of the new award, which includes a trophy and a cheque for £500.After two trying weekends to start his Carrera Cup campaign, the former multiple National Supersports champion had a strong weekend at Brands in his Michael Shanly Homes-supported Porsche. In the opening race, a gear linkage problem forced retirement, which meant the Red Line Racing car started from the back of the grid for Sunday's race. "I was alongside Tim Harvey at the back of the grid and I had a good start, but he was just gone!"However, Shanly pushed hard to fight up into a top six finish after a tremendous battle with his team mate Jason Young. In the closing laps, Shanly had to fend off a determined challenge from Susie Stoddart in the Porsche Cars with Team Autosport entry."I really enjoyed it. It was hard work, but I had a really good battle with Jason and then had to keep Susie behind me at the finish," said Shanly. He will now look ahead to rounds seven and eight at Oulton Park on 18/19 June.
