Croatia calling for Skoda man Hughes

Welshman Simon Hughes travels to the Croatian capital Zagreb this week, as he looks to challenge for the Skoda Fabia Rallye Cup honours on the INA Rallye Zagreb.  The two day event is the only round of the predominantly Czech Republic based series that takes place in Croatia.Disappointed by his retirement on the last round, but buoyed by his excellent pace, Hughes is determined to make up for that poor result by returning to the podium on the FIA European Rally Championship co-efficient rally.  Joining him for the event will be a new face to the series - Welshman Craig Parry.  The vastly experienced Oswestry man has co-driven for Simon before, and stands in for Glenn Patterson.  The Ulsterman unable to contest the rally due to prior rally commitments.  Parry has been contesting the FIA Middle East series this year, after competing at World Rally Championship level in 2004.With gearbox failure forcing Simon out on the Rallye Krumlov, the Colwyn Bay ace knows that the pressure is on to perform on this new event.  With only one score to drop in the Championship, Hughes knows that he needs to push arch rival Josef Sedlacek all the way in Croatia to keep his Championship hopes alive.  Sedlacek took a comfortable victory on the Rallye Krumlov following Simon's retirement, which demoted the 22 year old to third in the points standings.Croatia is a new challenge for all the Skoda Fabia Rallye Cup drivers, and Simon is keen to make the most of the unfamiliar stages.  The mountainous stages near to the Croatian capital have a reputation for steep climbs, steep descents, and very steep drops.  They reward bravery and commitment - something never short in supply with Simon.MAX Racing have re-prepared the Skoda Fabia after its last outing, and the Welshman cannot wait to get started on this all new rally for both him and co-driver Parry.'I'm really looking forward to the rally now' said Simon.  'Krumlov was a major disappointment for everyone involved, and we really didn't enjoy that one too much.  When we didn't have any problems, we were fastest on the stages, but we just didn't get the luck.  Its one of those things that you learn to shrug off in motorsport, and now we go to Croatia with confidence that we still have the pace to challenge for the win.  I don't think Sedlacek has contested the Croatian event before, which will definitely make it a very level playing field, as local knowledge will not be in the equation.  Our plan is quite simple - we will attack from the off and look to try and win the event.  With Josef having won the last two rounds, its very important that we get another win under our belts sooner rather than later.  Its also good to have Craig back with me again for this event, as we have worked well together before.'
