Donington next for Michelin Porsche Club
Fresh from a triple-header at Spa-Francorchamps, competitors in the 2005 Michelin Porsche Club Championship return to home ground for a double-header at Donington Park on Sunday, 19 June.A clean sweep of race wins at Spa has cemented Ian White's position at the head of the overall championship table after seven of the 17 races this season. Only once, when hit by major brake dramas at Castle Combe, has White failed to win in his 3.2 Carrera and he will be chasing wins seven and eight at Donington. However, this is no walkover for White, as the 968s of Kevin Harrison and Mark Lillington in particular are chasing hard. Harrison won at Castle Combe, but has otherwise suffered some pretty poor luck to date. When that changes, he has the pace to take the fight to White. Lillington, meanwhile, is going better than ever in his freshly rebuilt 968 and chased White home at both Oulton Park and Spa.Other strong class one runners include Ian Oliver (Carrera RS) and Richard Harrison (3.2 Carrera), but it was student Lewis Tootell who was the sensation of Oulton Park in his debut race in his 968CS. An off at Spa spoilt his Belgian foray, but if all is back together for Donington, he will be a real contender.Having missed the Castle Combe and Oulton Park races, Snetterton double class winner Richard Lambert returned to the fray at Spa and duly dominated class two in his Carrera 3. The defending overall champion will surely get up amongst the class one cars as well. But Lambert isn’t a shoe-in for class two, and currently heading the points is Oulton Park winner Marcus Carniel (911SC), while David Botterill is chasing hard in his 924 Carrera GT. Others to watch in the strong class two entry include Tom Segrue (944 S2) and the 911SCs of Colin Ingram, Chris Milne and Graham Howells.Teenager Marcus Clutton (911SC) had also shown fine pace, but a run of dramas has taken the edge off his early campaign. If all is right for Donington, he could be the big threat to Lambert. There isn't much to chose between the 911SCs of Ben Demetriou and Paul Goldman in class three just now. Goldman was forced to miss two of the three Spa races when taken unwell, so Demetriou has edged ahead in the points. Battle will be rejoined at Donington, with Chris Stewart (911E) not far away from the SC pair.
