Faulkner wins at Oulton Park
Damien Faulkner swept to a commanding victory in round seven of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Oulton Park today (Saturday, 18 June). Once ahead of his team mate Jason Templeman, Faulkner was able to ease clear and score his first win of the season for Team Parker Racing. “I’m really happy for the team and the sponsors; this win is for them,” said Faulkner, who is now level on championship points with Richard Westbrook. While Templeman completed a one-two result for the team, Tim Harvey (Team RPM) had another nightmare race when a fault on the ignition switch caused his car to cut out intermittently. After two pit stops, he finished eighth and last, but salvaged some championship points in the process.Faulkner and Templeman ran side-by-side to the first corner before Templeman edged ahead. However, Faulkner was soon looking at how to depose his team mate and swept ahead as they ran side-by-side over the startline into lap four. Once ahead, Faulkner was able to stretch his lead out to five seconds as Templeman’s attention was taking when an engine warning light came up on his dash. “I kept looking in my mirrors for smoke, but it was okay,” said Jason who was able to claim a secure second. With Harvey in trouble from the start, Nigel Rice (Red Line Racing) stormed into third and was looking good for a podium finish. However, he was being chased by team mate Jason Young and on lap seven the cars made contact at Island Hairpin. Rice spun to the tail of the field, as Young went on to claim third place at the flag. However, Young was later excluded from the results over the incident. With Harvey and Rice both out of the picture, the battle between Stephen Shanly (Red Line Racing), Andy Britnell (Motorbase Performance) and Adam Fleetwood (Porsche Cars Team Autosport) was now for fourth. Having turned in a very impressive drive to stay on the tail of his more experienced rivals, Fleetwood lost ground with a trip over the grass at Knickerbrook. Meanwhile, Shanly fended off Britnell to retain fourth, which became third when Young was excluded. “I was struggling about with the brakes, so I just concentrated on staying ahead of Andy,” said Shanly.A frustrated Rice eventually took fifth from Fleetwood, while Harvey was classified seventh after his team mate Steve Clark was forced out on the warming up lap with a failed oil seal.Provisional results (12 laps):1 Damien Faulkner (Team Parker Racing) 17m27.720s2 Jason Templeman (Team Parker Racing) 17m32.526s3 Stephen Shanly (Red Line Racing) 17m49.715s4 Andy Britnell (Motorbase Performance) 17m52.237s5 Nigel Rice (Red Line Racing) 18m03.323s6 Adam Fleetwood (Porsche Cars Team Autosport) 10m04.504s7 Tim Harvey (Team RPM) 10 laps
