Fleetwood impresses in Carrera debut
Reigning British Hillclimb champion Adam Fleetwood made an impressive Carrera Cup GB debut at Oulton Park over the weekend (18/19 June) driving the Porsche Cars with Team Autosport VIP entry. The 25-year old from Brewood in Staffordshire hopes his debut in the Carrera Cup will be a springboard for a fulltime switch to racing. The British hillclimb champion wants to break into racing at a high level for 2006 and beyond after finishing sixth on Saturday. His chances of doing still better on Sunday were dashed when the race was lost to a thunderstorm.“It’s a dream come true just being here,” said Fleetwood. Having only ever contested two races with the Silverstone School prior to the outing in the Porsche at Oulton, his pace and approach made a very strong impression. “Ideally I’d like to do something like Carrera Cup or touring cars; I want to try and get in at a high level.”Fleetwood had never seen Oulton Park before testing on Friday, but was able to walk the track with his cousin, BTCC pacesetter Dan Eaves, before testing started. “I had to learn the circuit and the car,” he admitted.
