Rain thwarts Carrera Cup

......... at Oulton ParkRound eight of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB was declared null and void at Oulton Park today (Sunday, 19 June) when a thunderstorm forced the race to be abandoned after only three racing laps. Heavy storm clouds gathered as the race time approached and as the cars formed on the grid, torrential rain started. After a delayed start, the race began, but after three laps the rain returned and left the track awash. After a further delay, the race was abandoned and so no result was declared and no championship points were awarded. For the record, Damien Faulkner (Team Parker Racing) was leading from Andy Britnell (Motorbase Performance) after three laps. Faulkner confirmed that the conditions were too difficult for the race to continue. “It was the right decision to stop the race,” he said. “Those were the most treacherous conditions I’ve ever raced in,” he added. It is intended to re-run the race at a later meeting in the season, open only to those who qualified at Oulton Park and using the grid positions from the abandoned race. Confirmation of which meeting will now feature three Carrera Cup races will follow shortly.
