Lambert ready for Carrera Cup debut

Richard Lambert will make his Carrera Cup GB debut at Croft over the weekend of 16/17 July in the Porsche Cars with Team Autosport entry. Lambert has earned the drive as reward for winning the 2004 Michelin Porsche Club Championship. Lambert, a 39-year old computer consultant from Surrey, has raced his 911 Carrera since 1994 and has been a consistent front-runner in the Porsche Club GB-organised championship. Now, he will get the chance to step up into the Carrera Cup for rounds nine and 10."I am very excited about racing in the Carrera Cup," says Lambert. "But I also feel a bit intimidated at the prospect of racing against the likes of Richard Westbrook and Tim Harvey and in such a powerful car. I watched the TV coverage of the Carrera Cup at Croft last year and was amazed at the level of driver skill." Lambert has already been to see the Carrera Cup in action, in order to get a feel for the challenge that awaits him at the Yorkshire track. "I was invited to watch the Carrera Cup at Thruxton in April and chatted to Jon Barnes, who was racing the VIP car," Lambert continues. "It was the first time he had raced a 911, and the first time he had raced a left hand drive car so it had been a challenge. I've spent 10 years racing a left-hand drive 911 and I have a GT3 road car to practice in, so I will rapidly run out of excuses if I don't do well!"Having the car tended by the crew at Porsche Motorsport will also be a new experience for the club-level competitor. "The team set-up is very professional, and I have worked with some of the guys before. I have always looked after my own car at race meetings so it will be interesting not having to worry about putting in fuel and changing wheels."Lambert, who has always been on the pace at Croft, is realistic about his targets for the weekend. "I'm hoping to finish both races, so will take it easy, but then I always say that and then when the green lights come on.... It will be a bonus to finish in the top five and I am hoping a good result will bring dividends with sponsors and potential drives."
