Dunlop & EERC confirm 3-Year Deal

Renowned tyre manufacturer Dunlop has agreed a three-year deal with the European Endurance and Racing Club (EERC) to exclusively supply rubber for the organising body’s Britcar and Production S1 Championships. The official confirmation of the agreement comes after mounting speculation a deal between the two parties was on the cards after Dunlop fell into dispute with the organisers of the British GT Championship. Commenting on the deal, EERC boss James Tucker said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have agreed a three-year deal with Dunlop and this is what we needed at the EERC to be able to hoist our championships up to the next level.“In just four years we’ve achieved far more than we ever imagined possible but now our focus is on making Britcar and Production S1 the biggest series in the UK, rivalling the likes of the British Touring Car Championship and British GT Championship.“Along with the kind of support manufacturers such as Mazda are showing, we really do feel this is the beginning of something very big indeed for the EERC. We’re aiming to change the face of British motorsport, giving drivers, teams and the fans something very rare indeed – great racing combined with complete value for money.”The agreement will see Dunlop supplying all race rubber for Britcar and Production S1 over the next three years, including the 5-Hour Willhire event and the upcoming Silverstone 24-Hour endurance spectacular – the latter set to become the biggest race meeting, outside the British Grand Prix, in the UK in 2005.Manager of Dunlop Motorsport UK, Gary Wassell, said: “Britcar is almost certainly the fastest growing series in the UK and in view of the situation regarding our contract to supply the British GT Championship, our focus will now be concentrated on Britcar.“We survive by, and excel at, supplying teams with a package they want and without doubt the EERC series is doing exactly that. By working with EERC, we aim to provide our customers with what they are looking for in a series and we will continue to talk to them and listen to their opinions.”Wassell added: “On top of running with a premium tyre at superb circuits, we are offering full works technical support, PR and promotional support and a £40,000 tyre prize fund, along with a drive at the Spa 24-Hour race. “We will also be bringing Café Dunlop to race meetings, having already proven to be successful with the teams, organisers and the media at British Touring Car Championship and British GT Championship events. Discussions with EERC are on-going though, and further exciting announcements will be made in due course.”With names such as former British Touring Car Championship stars David Leslie and Anthony Reid, experienced GT driver Calum Lockie and young up and coming racers, such as the inaugural Formula Woman Champion Natasha Firman, already counted among EERC’s competitors, the future looks very bright indeed.Dunlop, of course, is also the official tyre partner of the British Touring Car Championship and alongside its new commitment to the EERC also supplies rubber to the FIA GT Championship, MotoGP, the World Superbike Championship and the British Superbike Championship. After this weekend’s tie-up with the Belcar Championship at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit, the next race action for EERC will be at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk on 16th July.
