Third win of the season for Wehrlein after Porsche 1–2 in qualifying
Customer team Andretti finishes second with Jake Dennis
Gap between Jaguar and Porsche closes to five points in teams’ standings
Porsche factory driver Pascal Wehrlein claimed his third win of the season in Saturday’s ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race in London, moving into the lead of the drivers’ standings. Teammate Nico Müller finished P11 after helping secure a Porsche front-row lockout in qualifying. Jake Dennis, driving for customer team Andretti Formula E, finished second and now sits five points behind Wehrlein in the standings with one race remaining.
Wehrlein won by 5.7 seconds after leading the most laps of the 39-lap race. Starting from pole position, he only briefly lost the lead when he served his mandatory fast-charging pit stop under a mid-race Full Course Yellow. Müller, meanwhile, took his Pit Boost earlier under green-flag conditions. As other drivers made their stops during the caution period, he dropped down the order.
Before the race, Porsche achieved a first in Formula E. In qualifying, the factory team secured a front-row lockout after both Wehrlein and Müller topped their respective qualifying groups. Wehrlein’s fourth pole position of the season meant the German collected three additional championship points. Four Porsche-powered cars qualified inside the top five.
Both factory cars feature special liveries in London to celebrate 75 years of Porsche in motorsport, with the brand having already secured this year’s Formula E manufacturers’ title at the previous round.
Racing for Charity
Under the motto Racing for Charity, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG is making a strong social statement in the current Formula E season, supporting seriously ill children worldwide. For every lap completed by its two factory-run Porsche 99X Electric, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer donates 400 euros to the charitable organizations Kinderherzen retten e.V., Interplast Germany e.V., and the Ferry Porsche Foundation. After Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller completed the maximum number of laps at the 16th race of the season in London, the donation amount stands at 421,200 Euro.
Comments on the London E-Prix
Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E: “An amazing first race here in London. In qualifying, we took a front-row lockout with Pascal and Nico before they led the race in the early stages and Pascal ultimately took the win. Nico was unfortunately one of the drivers to take an early Pit Boost, and the Full Course Yellow meant he suffered a big time loss. As a result, he was fighting towards the back of points. Congratulations to our customer team Andretti and Jake Dennis on finishing second. Overall, it was an amazing team result and a huge achievement for everyone involved. Half the job is done: Pascal now leads the drivers’ standings by five points. In the teams’ standings, we have reduced the deficit from 14 to five points. The car is quick, and tomorrow we will give it our best again.”
Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche factory driver (#94): “I am very happy with today. So far, we’ve done a perfect job. We were competitive in the practice sessions and competitive in qualifying. In the race, it was unfortunate for Nico that the Full Course Yellow came at the wrong time for him. Otherwise, I think we could have finished 1–2. On my side, we ended up on the right side of the strategy. Half the weekend is done, but now we turn our focus to tomorrow and will give it everything.”
Nico Müller, Porsche factory driver (#51): “An action-packed race in London. I think we executed a perfect day on both sides of the garage. I’m very happy about Pascal’s victory, and both championships are wide open going into tomorrow. Unfortunately, I was unlucky with the neutralisations that occurred during the Pit Boost and Attack Mode activations, before some fun and games knocked us out of the points. That’s a bit frustrating, but I think we did everything right today. The focus now is on doing the same tomorrow and bringing home enough points to win both championships.”
