Porsche Club heads for Rockingham
The challenge of Rockingham is the next date on the schedule in the 2005 Michelin Porsche Club Championship with a double-header on Sunday (3 July).Heading into races 10 and 11 of the season, Ian White is firmly on target for his goal of 2005; the overall championship title. Having missed it narrowly in 2004, the Somerset racer is even more determined to make 2005 his year in the 3.2 Carrera. But recent races have shown just how big a challenge White faces, particularly from young chargers Andy Purdie (3.2 Carrera) and Lewis Tootell (968CS). Purdie was in stunning form last time out at Donington to clinch a double on his first visit to the circuit. So, the challenge of another new track will not faze the student.Tootell is also learning each track as he goes, but his speed at Oulton Park in May showed that his first race win could well come this season. Mark Lillington is another rapid 968CS pilot, while Mike Clapham also rejoins the class one fray in his 968CS.Four drivers are starting to emerge at the head of the very open and high competitive class two, with Marcus Carniel belying his limited experience to take the points lead after Donington in his 911SC. David Botterill is chasing hard in his 924 Carrera GT, the only example of the model currently racing in the UK, but Tom Segrue (944 S2) and Colin Ingram (911SC) are both well in contention as the class battle hots up. Frazer Robertson bounced back into the action by taking a brace of class wins at Donington and could yet scramble back into contention for the class title if he repeats that form at Rockingham. The 911SCs of Ben Demetriou and Paul Goldman have been setting the class three pace, but if they elect to miss the Rockingham races, it is Chris Stewart (911E) who will benefit the most.
