Alpine will start the 6 Hours of Fuji from the front row of the grid after both the qualifying and Hyperpole sessions were cancelled this afternoon due to poor track conditions.

Heavy rain swept across Fuji Speedway ahead of the scheduled start of the LMGT3 qualifying session, which began on time but was red-flagged after François Heriau went off in his #21 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari.

The decision was then taken to cancel the remaining qualifying sessions due to the forecast of heavier rain and fog at Fuji Speedway.

That meant that, in accordance with the regulations, the grid was set according to the best times from the three Free Practice sessions held across Friday and Saturday morning.

Victor Martins’ FP2 time of 1m40.594s ensured that the #36 Alpine will start from pole position, marking the first-ever WEC pole for the A424 Hypercar.

It was a double celebration for the French manufacturer as the #35 car will join its sister Hypercar on the front row, putting Alpine in a strong position to defend last year’s victory at the venue.

Second on the grid should initially have been the #007 Aston Martin Valkyrie, but it was demoted to fourth after receiving a penalty for causing a collision in the morning’s FP3 session.

Starting third on the grid will be the #17 Genesis Magma Hypercar, meaning the Korean manufacturer will begin tomorrow’s race from by far its best-ever starting position.

In the LMGT3 category, the #77 Proton Competition Ford Mustang will start from pole position after setting the fastest FP2 time on Friday afternoon. It marks the first pole position for a Ford Mustang since the Lone Star Le Mans race at COTA in September 2025.
