With the 306 Maxi and Subaru Impreza
Delecour/Gordon in the Michelin-shod 306 Maxi take P2 overall and win the Pre-2000 class, followed by Trelles/Del Buono in the Subaru Impreza gr.A
A weekend to remember for IKE Racing at the Spanish event celebrating Carlos Sainz, watched by thousands of fans
A great weekend for the Reggio Emilia-based team led by Andrea Zivian at the Rally de Asturias Histórico, surrounded by huge crowds and a star-studded lineup of cars and championship-winning drivers gathered to honor Carlos Sainz’s career. IKE Racing secured second place overall with Delecour/Gordon in the Michelin-shod Peugeot 306 Maxi, who also took victory in the Pre-2000 class. Second place in the same class went to the IKE Subaru Impreza gr.A driven by Trelles/Del Buono.
It was a consistent rally for the recently crowned European Champions, Delecour and Gordon, in the 306 Maxi. The pair put on a great show for the thousands of spectators on the stages, maintaining a strong pace despite it being their first time at the event and having to deal with dirty and slippery sections. Their efforts paid off with second step on the overall podium and the Pre-2000 class win. Meanwhile, Trelles/Del Buono built up their speed throughout the event in the Subaru Impreza gr.A, climbing to P7 overall in the second leg to secure second in the Pre-2000 class.
Alongside the strong results, the team was thrilled by the feedback from the Spanish fans, who cheered IKE Racing’s drivers and cars all weekend - in the service park, along the stages, and at the podium ceremony.
Andrea "ZIPPO" Zivian, founder and team principal of IKE, shared his thoughts on a strong weekend:
“This event gave us fantastic results and a brilliant atmosphere. Competing alongside so many rally legends, taking second place overall behind ‘El Matador’ in a Rally1 car, and securing a 1-2 in the Pre-2000 class with the 306 and the Impreza proves both the reliability of our team and cars - which ran smoothly without a single issue - and the performance of our Michelin tires.
It was a pity to see Loeb retire with technical issues while putting on such a show, as it would have been great to see the battle between the two 306 Maxis play out to the end. But beyond the standings, which weren’t our main focus here,” concluded ZIPPO, “the real magic of this event was the crowd. Their passion gives you an unbelievable boost and is the best reward for all our hard work. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to end this season. Our thanks go to the team for their continuous hard work, all our sponsors and partners, and the many fans who support our project to bring 1990s rally rivalries back to the stages.”
