Davies on the brink of title joy

20 year old Welsh star Kevin Davies is potentially just 45 stage miles away from clinching the A5 class in the 2005 Silkolene 1400 National Rally Championship.  The Llanfihangel-ar-Arth based youngster can wrap up the title if all goes his way on next weekend's Quinton Stages Rally, based in Llandovery. After showing superb consistency and pace throughout his first season in the sport, a solid result is all that is required for Kevin to take the title after five wins from five starts in a highly impressive first year.  Partnered by Llandysul's Emyr Jones, the pair have often placed their Geoff Jones Motorsport run Nissan Micra Kit Car within the overall podium positions on the 1400 events at times. Now Kevin faces another lesson in this season of learning.  The EXL Windows and KJ's Eden Tours backed driver will need to blend both speed and caution as he looks to thread the Micra through the forests near to the Epynt Military Range, and stages used on the Wales Rally GB.  The forests of Crychan and Halfway will pose a stern challenge - they have caught out some of the best in the world - but Davies has the determination to make sure he reaches his title goal next Saturday.Kevin and Emyr can take confidence into the rally in the Yokohama Tyres shod Micra.  They eclipsed their nearest rivals by a huge four minute margin on the recent Dukeries Rally in Mansfield, but despite that win, Davies is taking little for granted as he returns to rally on Welsh soil:'Its a bit of a new feeling this time' said Kevin.  'Previously we've just gone out to do our best, find a good pace, and bring the car back in one piece.  This time its a similar scenario but we will need to have 100% concentration all through the day.  We do not need to take maximum points to be assured of the title, but obviously for our team and sponsors, it would be great to make it a clean sweep of victories.  If we are in a position to do that - then great - but the number one priority is to get the title wrapped up this weekend.'
