Young Irishman Michael Devaney was on form last weekend in Rounds 7 and 8 ofthe German F3 Championship at Lausitzring, he took a dominant win in raceone and a well fought 2nd position in race two. What made the weekend evensweeter was the fact that his two great results have shot him up from 6th to2nd position overall in the points table despite missing the first tworounds of the Championship.
In Qualifying for race one the track started out wet with a dry linegradually forming as the session went on. The 25 car grid then shot in tothe pitlane for a change to slick tyres and it was in the last few minuteswhen the field started to put in quick times. Like all the other driversMichael set his best time in the last lap and it was good enough to put himon the front row in 2nd position. At the start Michael got a clean start tohold his second position into the first corner and straight away began tochallenge poleman and teamate Martin Hippe and by the sixth corner of therace Devaney was down the leaders inside to take the lead. From then on heset blistering pace to extend his lead to 8.6 seconds by the chequered flag, also earning an extra point for fastest lap.
In Qualifying two Michael was unfortunate to recieve a call into the pitswith the last five minutes remaining of the session due to a miscalculationwith his fuel load. He still set a time early in the session good enough forthird on the grid. Qualifying was soon forgotten when the lights went greenfor race two as Michael made a lightning start to take the lead into thefirst corner. It proved to be a much more difficult race as he suffered fromsevere oversteer and eventually lost the lead on the 9th lap to Peter Elkmandown the main straight. He stayed in 2nd place for the remainder of the racefinishing 2 seconds adrift of Elkmann.
The 20 year old HS Technik driver was extremely happy with how the pointssituation panned out over the weekend "With these two great results we havemade a huge step in the championship, i didn´t expect to be 2nd in thepoints table this early after missing the first two rounds of thechampionship. Now the fight is on to catch the championship leader and with10 races still left its far from over" commented the Motorsport Irelandsupported driver.
Michael's win in race one was his second of the season, also his podium inrace two was his fourth podium out of six races so far this season.
Next round at Nurburgring will take place on the 9th and 10th of july at theTruck Grand Prix with an expected crowd of over 100,000 people.
