Jon Ingram Quinton Rally Review
HEAT GETS TO INGRAM ON QUINTONChoosing to contest round seven of the British Trials and Rally Drivers Association championship and miss the latest round of the British Rally Championship, Jon Ingram decided the peaceful surroundings of Mid Wales and the added attraction of the Quinton Stages Rally would be the place to be. The Altrincham driver abandoned his British Rally Championship campaign to contest the remaining rounds of the BTRDA series. The Quinton Horiba Stages Rally on Saturday 9th July brought Ingram and co-driver Ian Allsop together for a second time to use the Maxspeed Ford Focus WR Car, while Ingram's Focus undergoes repairs after heavy impact on an event earlier in the season. Ingram looking to capitalise on his points score so far in the series, but also well aware of the potential battle at the head of the field on the Llandovery based rally."We came here primarily to score points and with the entry list looking so healthy, we weren't going to get involved with any battle with non championship contenders."Over the opening test in Esgair Dafydd, Ingram and Allsop achieved their aim and led the championship contenders and were happy to be in third place, just seven seconds off the leading time in third place.Stage two was a different affair, the Ford Focus driver suffering a spin in Crychan and dropping the pair down to fifth place."We spun in the stage and the car cut out which cost us some time, after that we really pushed hard through the rest of the stage and it felt really good. Just very frustrating to make a mistake like that."Over the next stage, Route 60, Ingram clawed back fourth place with no dramas. Then on stage four in Halfway, Ingram experienced a similar problem that occurred on the previous rally in the same car. "We had a fire on the car, it looks like oil from the gearbox caused it. We had to stop and extinguish the flames and endure the fumes back to service. However we decided on the grounds of safety that it was better to call it a day there and then."Despite the retirement and the need to finish all the remaining rounds, Ingram is very upbeat of the task ahead and will be ready to resume his championship campaign on the next round of the series, the Woodpecker Rally on Saturday 3rd September. "We should be back in our own car for the Woodpecker and will certainly feel more confident in the car. Although it may be a little tough to win the series, needing to be the front running contender on the remaining three rounds."
