Kevin Davies wins A5 Championship

Kevin Davies and Emyr Jones - 2005 Silkolene 1400 National Rally Champions - Class A5.

Rising Welsh rally talent Kevin Davies (Llanfihangel-ar-Arth) is celebrating after clinching the 'A5' Class title in the Silkolene 1400 National Rally Championship.  Davies showed his superb consistency by netting a sixth straight win in the series on the Quinton Stages Rally, giving him a perfect score to secure the title. On a sunny and very warm day in South Wales, Davies netted the title by finishing first in class and 4th in the overall Silkolene 1400 results. Kevin overcame 45 miles of dusty gravel stages on the Llandovery based event to claim his victory.   With Llandysul's Emyr Jones alongside, the EXL Windows backed duo knew that a finish was all that was required in order to net them their first ever championship title together. In the Geoff Jones Motorsport run Nissan Micra Kit Car, Davies showed early on that he was in no mood to canter to the finish to pick up a trophy.  The 20 year blitzed through the opening Esgair Dafydd test to find himself more than half a minute faster than his nearest rival - a highly impressive effort for the opening stage of the day.Rather than back off to conserve the lead, Davies decided to push on to keep his level of concentration high.  Fellow class A5 rivals just could not live with the pace of the West Walian duo as they opened up a sizeable lead by first service.  The Yokohama shod Micra was once again performing superbly and KJ's Eden Tours backed Kevin was able to concentrate fully on giving his best on the stages.Such was Davies pace at the front of the field he was now trading times with the more powerful 1400cc category cars in the 'B9' class for the remainder of the day.  His lead swelled in the A5 category to a crushing six and a half minutes as he reached the finish delighted to have secured the class title.  The David Harries & Co. backed crew were all smiles as they popped the champagne corks immediately after the event. For Kevin, it was a fully deserved triumph in this, his first ever season of forest rallying:'I must start by saying a huge thank you to all our sponsors and friends for their support this year.  Without them, we would never have been able to celebrate this victory.  Also to Geoff Jones and his team for providing superb guidance to me as a driver and for providing a brilliant car all year.  Yokohama have also been extremely helpful and together we have really put a great season together.  Emyr and I have also gelled extremely well inside the car and his experience has been invaluable at times this year.  The title aside, its been fantastic to learn so much about rallying this season and I am just thrilled to have won this championship in my first year.  Hopefully we can build on this for 2006'.Davies is now likely to miss the Woodpecker Stages as he pursues a deal to contest the 1400cc category of Wales Rally GB, the UK's round of the World Rally Championship.  With a special deal being offered to 1400cc crews to take part in the rally, Davies is working hard to secure a deal that will see him contest the event in the GJM Nissan Micra Kit Car.  With some work still to be done to make it a reality, Davies will concentrate all his efforts on securing that deal before he looks into the remainder of the season.
