Burning Rubber and Explosive Engines

The European Finals

Europe’s most prestigious Drag Racing event comes to a dramatic climax at the Finals of the FIA European Drag Racing Championships,Santa Pod Raceway from 8th – 11th September 2005

From a standing start, Top Fuel dragsters accelerate faster than a jumbo jet, a fighter jet and a Formula One race car. The force is nearly five times that of gravity. These guys have to be completely nuts! On 8th – 11th September the top drivers and fastest Top Fuel Dragsters in Europe will be fighting for a place on the rostrum, and in the history books. It promises to be an explosive event.

The season got off to a dramatic start at the First Round in Santa Pod with a record ten FIA Top Fuel Dragster entries, with contenders from Sweden, Norway, Holland, England and a Brit from Canada. If this was anything to go by, the finals promise to be a weekend of high drama and stunning performances.

The Englishman Andy Carter, defending his 2004 title, will have some ground to make up after being broken by fellow Englishman Jon Webster with a 5.07/259 run in the First Round. It was Lex Joon from Holland in his ex David Baca car who shone throughout eliminations after surviving an almost blowover wheelie during qualifying. The final was a disappointment for Webster as he lost drive and saw a flaming Lex Joon drive all the way from half track in a fireball to take the win with a 5.41/219.

The Finals always prove to be a high profile televised event and a major crowd puller, attracting over 25,000 visitors. It’s a great family day or weekend out with plenty of entertainment on and off the track, with kid’s entertainers, helicopter rides, adrenalin rides, quads and a funfair!

Over 250 race teams are expected from all over Europe to compete in both the FIA Championship (cars) and the UEM Championship (bikes). Alongside the phenomenal Top Fuel Dragsters, you’ll witness an explosive mixture of cars including Top Methanol Dragsters, Funny Cars, Pro Mods, Nitro funny Cars as well as doorslammers, roadsters and even beetles.
