Westbrook opts for Mondello

.... over HockenheimRichard Westbrook has resolved to try and win the Carrera Cup GB this season in preference to his Porsche Supercup title chase and will race at Mondello Park this weekend (23/24 July) rather than in the Supercup at Hockenheim.“At the start of the season I was doing two championships, which has been a dream,” explains Westbrook. “But I can’t sacrifice one championship just to do races in the other one. The aim was always to win one championship and I’ve had some bad luck in the last four rounds of the Supercup. So I’ll miss Hockenheim and then do the final three Supercup races at Hungary, Monza and Spa.”Following rounds nine and ten of the Carrera Cup at Croft over the weekend (16/17 July), Westbrook has taken a nine-point lead over title-rival Damien Faulkner.“I’m quite a way off on the Supercup points now. It is still mathematically possible to win the Supercup, but it would be very hard, and I’m now leading the Carrera Cup again, so the obvious thing is to go to Mondello.”“In any championship, it is important you finish the year strongly. I’ll really be going for the last three Supercup rounds as I won’t really have to worry about points. Carrera Cup is different. Worst case scenario is that Damien will be 12 points ahead of me going into the Sunday races at Mondello and I’ve got to pull that back.”At Mondello, Westbrook will have to sit out the first of three races as that is the re-run of the race lost to the thunderstorm at Oulton Park. As he was away at Indianapolis that weekend, Westbrook is not eligible to compete in the re-run.“It’ll be interesting watching the postponed race at Mondello. I’ll have to try and get a black flag off one of the marshals! Damien’s got a chance to pull some points in the first race at Mondello, but we’re only half way through the championship and you still don’t write off Tim Harvey. I still think he’ll come into it, I really do."Westbrook's schedule means that he is racing five weekends on the run. Following the Supercup race at Silverstone, he switched to Carrera Cup at Croft and Mondello. Next comes the Supercup race in Hungary and then it's back to the Carrera Cup at Snetterton on 6/7 August.
