GP2 Coloni at Hockenheim

Two weeks after the British Grand Prix, GP2 Series and Coloni Motorsport head to Hockenheimring this week for the round 7th of the 2005 GP2 Series German Grand Prix. The circuit is one of the favourites for Coloni Motorsport, who took its first FIA F3000 International victory in 2003 with Giorgio Pantano on the renewed circuit.

On the Coloni GP2 Technical Department, the Italian team is pleased to announce that Mr Gary Davies has been appointed as new chief engineer and he will attend all the remaining races of the 2005 season. Davies is one of most experienced and successful chief engineers in the European feeder categories and together with Coloni  is aiming to achieve many prestigious results.

The Hockenheimring demands good traction from cars and tyres; the track is well known by all the drivers and teams, with a mix of slow corners like the Hairpin and the famous Motodrome.

Coloni  drivers Gimmi Bruni and Mathias Lauda aim to give to the team its second season victory at Hockenheim. The German track is one of the Bruni’s favourite circuits and the 24-year old  showed good performance driving in F1 last year.

This weekend’s racing will be the second GP2 series event to be held in Germany and Coloni had close racing at the Nürburgring back in May, where Gimmi Bruni was leading the Race 2 till a mechanical failure stopped his triumphant start-to-finish leading race performance.

After a difficult week-end Mathias Lauda is determined to finish in the points and to improve his performance.

The GP2 Series Organiser introduced three new optional components to be used by the teams. The first are “shark gill” exit covers for the left and right-hand side pods. The grillshave been used to great effect on the development car, and Coloni Motorsport has been testing successfully on behalf of the Organiser at the last group test in Paul Ricard in June. Two additional optional components are the new Brembo calliper piston radiators and new rear brake ducts with larger inlets.
