PRACTICE AND QUALIFYING
Very humid and very hot today at Spa – 3 hours of free practice Thursday morning followed by one hour night qualifying at 8.30 and another hour and a half at 10.00.
Most of the time in the first free practice was spent mapping the new engine in the car; the second free practice there was more mapping and then Liz had some time in the car.
Qualifying at 8.30 and it was still hot and humid, but this is Spa and there were clouds in the distance. Justin was in first and set at time of 1.19.8 with only two flying laps – the strategy for this session was for all the drivers to complete their one night qualifying lap. Liz, Jens and Bobby then qualified but, just as Bobby went out the rain started.
At 9.30 there was thunder, lightning and heavy rain – so, with all four drivers qualified Laurence made the decision not to go out in the second qualifying – no risk taking before the race and more time to prepare the car for tomorrow’s 45 minute qualifying and the race on Sunday.
With rain also expected Friday it looks like the times will not improve, in which case we will start from 12th on the grid.
