Spirit of Le Mans returns to Silverstone

The festival spirit of Le Mans returns to Silverstone in August, when the Le Mans Endurance Series (LMES) makes  its  only  UK  appearance  of  2005  at  the  1000km  of  Silverstone  event  (12-14  August).  The  6  hour endurance race will be the highlight of an action packed weekend, lasting throughout Saturday afternoon and running late into the evening (16:00 – 22:00hrs). Driving in the twilight hours, pit stops, driver changes and refuelling are all distinctive elements of the unique Le Mans atmosphere, providing a weekend of motorsport that’s not to be missed.   In addition to LMES, the hugely competitive and popular British F3 and GT championships will be battling it out on Silverstone’s world famous Grand Prix circuit on the Sunday, treating fans to further top quality racing and high-speed thrills. The F3 series is renowned as being the proving ground for aspiring F1 drivers, and is where the legendary Ayrton Senna and British hero Jenson Button first drove their way into the hearts and minds of the motorsport public. Spectators will be particularly keen to keep an eye on some of the rising stars of British motor racing including Mike Conway, Ryan Lewis and Dan Clarke.

Tickets  for  all  three  days  of  the  1000km  of  Silverstone  are  now  on  sale  and,  if  booked  in  advance,  are available free of charge on the Friday (free on the day), £15 for Saturday (£20 on the day) and £8 for Sunday (£10 on the day). Weekend Tickets, for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, are available for £20 and can only be purchased  in  advance.  Children  aged  15  and  under  go  free*,  with  prices  inclusive  of  free  parking  and  a roving seating in any of the available grandstands. The 1000km of Silverstone event stands out from any other event at the Home of British Motor Racing as it is the only race weekend in 2005 when fans are able to camp in the centre of the circuit. Organisers introduced overnight camping at last year’s event and it proved to be extremely popular with the fans, so pre-booking is advised to avoid disappointment. Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Ltd, commented:

“The 1000km of Silverstone is the only event we allow fans to camp in the centre of the circuit. We introduced this last year and, with racing going  on  long  into  the  evening,  the  overnight  camping  creates  a  truly  unique  atmosphere  and  significantly adds to the special festival mood. Additional entertainment and a licensed bar will also help to recreate the spirit of Le Mans during a fantastic weekend for all the family.”

The  on-track  action  continues  throughout  the  weekend,  with  race-goers  able  to  enjoy  free  access  to  the paddock  and  centre  of  the  circuit,  giving  them  the  opportunity  to  rub  shoulders  with  a  number  of  famous names from the world of motorsport.   There’s   also   plenty   to   keep   the   family   entertained   away   from   the   track.   Silverstone’s   ‘E-Zones’ (Entertainment Zones) provide something for fans of all ages, including Bungee Trampolines, Bouncy Castle, Face Painting, Kids Quads. There’s also a giant screen enabling spectators to keep up-to-speed with all the action, wherever it happens on the track.   To  book  tickets  for  the  1000km  of  Silverstone  weekend,  or  for  further  information,  visit  www.silverstone- circuit.co.uk, or contact the ticket hotline on 08704 588 290.  Tickets will also be available at the main gate on each day.
