More newcomers for Porsche Open
Interest in the Michelin Porsche Open Series continues to boom during the mid-season break in the calendar. Four more registrations in recent weeks has taken the number of registered drivers to over 40 as teams prepare for the season to continue at Thruxton on 21 August.Phil Price, boss of Connaught Competition Engines, has signed up to race a 525bhp 911RS Turbo in the series and brings 30 years of competition experience. "It's a totally road legal car that is capable of competing at the highest level when asked to," says Price of his awesome 3.2-litre monster.New into class three of the Open is another seasoned racer, Tim Bryan. Having raced more than 250 times in a variety of cars, including TVR Tuscans and Ford Mustangs, Bryan is switching to the Open in a 928GTS. This is the ex-Malcolm Sargent car, which was a race winner in the Porsche Cup in the late 1990s.Also joining the series for the closing races of the 2005 season will be Cornishman John Waples, who will step up from Stock and Hot Hatch racing in a Colin Davids-prepared 911 Turbo and racing newcomer Andrew Chalmers in a turbocharged 911SC.The Porsche Open series resumes with double-headers at Thruxton and at Brands Hatch a week later during the Porsche Festival (28/29 August).]
