Sunoco Race Fuels drivers Dale McDowell and Billy Moyer finished first and second respectively in the “18th Annual Stacker 2® USA Nationals 60” at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI, Saturday night.
“What a great win for us,” stated McDowell. “This has not been our best year, so it feels wonderful to win the Nationals again. It is such an honor to win here against the best late model drivers in the country. I can’t thank Shane and the crew enough for the excellent job they did all weekend. This is an impressive way to thank our sponsors for sticking by us all year.” Billy Moyer grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag and held the point position for more than half the race. At the midway point Moyer lead with McDowell second and another Sunoco fueled driver, Rookie of the Year contender, Josh “Kid Rocket” Richards, in fourth. By Lap 37, McDowell pulled ahead of Moyer and never looked back.
Things got a little hairy when Richards, running third, had his left rear tire go flat bringing out a caution on Lap 51. McDowell had to deal with one more caution flag on Lap 53 when Clint Smith and Earl Pearson, Jr. tangled in Turn Two.
“I wasn’t sure I could stay ahead of those guys behind me the last seven laps, but I just maintained my line,” commented McDowell after the race. Moyer gained six points in his chase to regain the lead for the World of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Mode Series Championship. “This was a good, clean, fun race,” stated Moyer.
“We gained a few points, and didn’t put a scratch on the car.” Moyer is one of the drivers who has been helping Sunoco Performance Products field test its new fuel, HCR Plus™.
“We are pleased to have two of Sunoco Performance Products drivers do so well at this prestigious event,” commented Rob Marro, Manager, Sunoco Performance Products and Automotive Events.
“Moyer has been a great help in our new product development. McDowell has had a long relationship with Bearden Oil, our distributor in the Southeast. We are proud to have racers of this caliber associated with Sunoco.”
