New Classic Auto Road Rally Announced

Barnstorming Maine Rally, a new classic auto road rally is announced by the Maine Tourism Association of Hallowell, Maine.  The Rally is scheduled for June 12 – 16, 2006 and will feature trips along some of the most beautiful roads in Maine.  Participants will stay at the luxurious Harraseeket Inn in Freeport, Maine and will be treated to the best Maine has to offer throughout the event.

Brian Redman, a retired international sports car road racing champion and now an advisor for road rally tours and promoter of race weekends for Vintage and Historic race cars, is assisting with the arrangements and serving as advisor for the event.

During his 35-year racing career, Redman, a native of England who now lives in Vero Beach, Fla., was a factory race car driver for Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, and Jaguar.

He won 77 professional races on 36 circuits in 12 countries. Thirty of those wins came in races between 1,000km and 24 hours in duration, including three in the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans, and three in the Rolex 24 At Daytona.

The Maine Tourism Association, a statewide, non-profit organization representing some 1750 members throughout Maine is sponsoring this event as an opportunity to both showcase the beauty and character of Maine as well as raise money for charity. All proceeds from the event will be donated to worthy Maine causes.

The Rally will consist of classic and vintage autos built prior to 1975 with a limit of 50 entries.  The routes will travel through many small towns and villages and will feature Maine’s natural beauty and historic architecture, including many historic barns, as well as important points of interest.

“We are rolling out the red carpet for this event,” said Vaughn Stinson, Chief Executive Officer of Maine Tourism Association.  “We are very excited to be the driving force on what we envision as a world class rally.  Maine is a gorgeous state and perfect setting for this rally and we welcome classic car owners from near and far to participate in this unique event”.

Registration details will be announced at the end of August and will soon be available online at barnstormingmaine.com.
