After just one day’s testing at Snetterton the Lister Storm LMP1 hybride travelled to Silverstone to take part in the LMES 1000km race on Saturday evening.
Friday was the day for free practice – 4 one hour sessions starting at 9am, finishing at 10pm. It was an excellent debut for the LMP which ran absolutely trouble free all day. Changes were being made between each session which improved the lap times of the LMP. By the end of the day the team was still working on the optimum aero but in the third session was the fastest car across the start finish line. The car has the power, now we need to explore the new aerodynamics.
Only one incident – at 9.30 in the evening while Jens was driving, a hare ran across the track in front of him. Braking to avoid the animal he went into a 140mph spin – no damage!
However, qualifying was a disaster! A change to the rear wing affected the handling adversely – Justin came in after two laps but the understeer had already taken the edge of the tyres so in the 20 minutes allowed he couldn’t set a competitive time.
