FOR THE LAST FOUR ALMS ROUNDS
Crack LMP2 team, Intersport Racing, has confirmed today that American sportswoman, Liz Halliday will partner Clint Field in the Lola B05/40 AER for the remaining four rounds of the 2005 American Le Mans Series. These are: Road America on 21st August, Mosport on 2nd September, Petit Le Mans/Road Atlanta on 29th September and Laguna Seca on 14th October.
A delighted Liz Halliday said: “This is fantastic news as it gives me a great opportunity to continue developing my experience in prototypes. Clint and I won our last race together at Infineon in July and I look forward to more successes together. The Lola/AER combination is great, the team is very professional and working well so we have a strong package. With six ALMS rounds this year plus the Le Mans 24 Hours, my programme in prototypes would have been quite an extensive year – in addition to the full assault of the FIA GT Championship with the Lister works team - and it will be a great platform for even better results in 2006.
The 26-year-old continued: “Clint is now leads the Drivers’ Championship and I will do everything I can to help him clinch the 2005 title. I also want to make sure that the team wins the Teams’ Championship. I am sure that it will be a tough battle with Miracle Motorsport but we have a fast and reliable package and I look forward to making sure they stay behind us!
It will be the first time that Liz has driven at Road America and she is very excited about the prospect because she has always wanted to race there. Liz added: “I can’t wait for the first practice! Road America is an awesome track, with a great history and I always wanted to compete there when I was a teenager.
“This is a dream come true. The circuit is long and fast with some challenging corners and it will be awesome to drive around there at the wheel of an LMP2 car.”
Since her July win at Infineon in round 5, Liz has continued her extremely busy schedule on four wheels and four legs. A fortnight ago she raced with the Lister works team in the Spa 24 Hours (FIA GT Championship). And in three-day eventing she successfully competed in the Aston Le Walls. This weekend she continues her riding programme with a two-star event at Hartpury International with her horse ‘Foxy’ (Red Letter Day). This event is Liz’s last required qualifying event of the year for three-star level.
Liz is then flying off to America on Monday as she will attend the press day organised in Chicago by the ALMS on Tuesday and then in Milwaukee on Wednesday.
Liz said: “This is a very busy time of the year for me, but it is worth it and I enjoy every minute of it! And when I get back from the US, I will go straight to Germany, to the Oschersleben circuit for the next round of the FIA GT Championship with Lister.” Halliday continued: “I enjoy driving two different type of cars this year, a GT1 and an LMP2. It is a great experience and it helps me develop my driving in preparation for next year.
Liz concluded: “It would be great to be back on the top of the podium on Sunday afternoon with Clint. It was awesome at Infineon and it would be fantastic to continue our winning streak!”
Road America is halfway between Milwaukee and Green Bay in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. It is a four-mile permanent road course with fourteen turns outlined by seven miles of access road on 626 acres of land.
