For the first time in this new GP2 Series rain fell as the cars lined up on the grid. Start was delayed for 15minuites so teams could replace dry with wet tyres.
Adam, who was set to start the race in second position, unfortunately stalled the car after not finding the bite on a newly fitted clutch. This meant he had to rejoin in last position. Although conditions were very slippery, Adam still managed to make his way back up, recovering half the field in his first three laps! A brilliantly executed pit stop by the Super Nova team finally securing him his second place podium finish, just behind ART’s Kovalainen.
Giorgio Pantano began Sunday’s sprint race in 7th position, got off to a swift start. Unfortunately though he endured a couple of spins, which pushed him back to 19th. The first one to pit and change back to dry tyres, Giorgio made a speedy recovery racing back up to 8th position, and dominating the track with his fast pace, only just missing out on the fastest lap title on the final lap
Giorgio Pantano 1: (P8)
“Had a few problems early on today, and if it hadn’t have been for the touch I had with Pla, I believe I was in with a real good chance to be up at the front. The car felt really good though, and I got some of the quickest lap times, which is great! Overall the weekend was pretty good for both the team and me. ”
Adam Carroll 1: (P2)
“The bite point on a new clutch caught me out today, & I stalled on the green flag lap. This meant I had to restart last which was frustrating, and I knew then it was going to be tough. However I had a really good first lap getting back up to 12th, even though the conditions were quite tricky. The team made the decision to pit at just the right time and did a brilliant job! This made a difference, and now it feels great to get podium finish and score some championship points!”
Team Principal – David Sears
“The race today was delayed by 15 minutes because it started raining, so everyone changed to rain tyres and a wet set up. Adam Carroll managed to stall on the grid, and had to rejoin at the back. Luckily it started to dry up during, and he did a back to front race finishing in 2nd place! It was a great drive and a brilliant pit from the Super Nova team. Giorgio Pantano started in 7th after the top eight were reversed from yesterday’s race. He spun twice, which unfortunately put him back to 19th place. The team brought him in to be the first car to change to dry tyres, and then on Giorgio proved to be the quickest man on track working his way back up to 7th, only just missing out on fastest lap time, as another driver piped him on the last lap! Six races left, and there is still a lot of points a stake…Adam lies 5th and Giorgio 6th in the driver championship. The Super Nova team have now consolidated 3rd place in the teams championship & believe we can still finished 1st or 2nd by the season end!”
