Jordan battles on in Kent
Andrew Jordan (Sutton Coldfield) had to cope with major technical dramas as he fought to retain his lead in the British Junior Rallycross Championship at Lydden (Kent) on Monday (29 August).Andrew was competing in his Mini in the event, which featured rounds of both the British Championship and the BTRDA Junior Rallycross Championship. However, an engine failure after two of the six heats caused major dramas for Andrew and the team as they battled to fit the spare engine in time for him to continue competing in the heats. Incredibly, the engine and gearbox were changed in just an hour and 20 minutes and Andrew only missed one heat as a result. But the spare engine was not prepared to exactly the same specification as his normal race unit and Andrew (16) soon knew that he was going to have to race hard to match the pace of his rivals. Pushing the car to the absolute limit, Andrew managed to finish third in both of the all-important finals to salvage valuable points from what had at first seemed like being a disastrous day. Now, Andrew faces a big challenge over the final race meetings of the season as he bids to win both titles. In the British Championship, he continues to lead overall, although dropped scores now come into the reckoning. The title will be decided at the final round at Croft on 2 October. The BTRDA championship, in which Andrew now lies second, will be decided over two more rounds, at Blyton on 18 September and then at Croft on the same day as the British final.Andrew Jordan is supported by John Guest, Team Dynamics, Bill Gwynne Rally School and Pirtek.
