Liz Halliday and regular ALMS team-mate Clint Field are targeting a win in the LMP2 class of the eighth round of the American Le Mans Series, which will take place this coming weekend at Mosport, Ontario in Canada.
The duo had an eventful race at the previous ALMS round at Road America, a fortnight ago, when the twenty six-year old female driver was forced to retire at the entrance of the pit lane, half an hour into the race, with the car on fire!
Halliday said: “I will never forget that; it was so scary and I still don’t know how I managed to stop the burning car rolling back onto the track. It could have been a major disaster, as the other cars were still running. I hope that Mosport will be quieter on this front!”
Liz continued: “I have never been to Mosport before and I look forward to discovering another new circuit this year! It sounds very promising, as everybody I know who’s raced there tells me it’s a great track, really fast and challenging. I can’t wait to drive the Lola B05/40 AER in anger there It should be a great experience. I like racing in Canada, as they seem to always have great tracks.”
Halliday added: “Since Road America, the car has been completely rebuilt by the team. The damage was quite superficial and not as bad as we first thought. Cosmetically, the car didn’t look good once the marshals had extinguished the fire, but everything has been fixed by Intersport Racing. There is a new AER engine on its way from the UK and the car will look like brand new, with a fresh paint job, by the time we hit the track at Mosport.
“I am delighted to be back with Clint,” continued Liz. “We are definitely going for the win, big time. I also want to score the maximum number of points so that Clint can get back to the top in the Drivers’ championship. We need to win this race and we will make sure it happens! It is really important to me and if the car is reliable, there is no reason why it should not happen.”
