LIZ HALLIDAY CONFIRMED AT BEECHDEAN
ALMS and FIA GT regular driver Liz Halliday has confirmed that she will drive a BMW E36 in the forthcoming on 10th - 11th September with the Beechdean Motorsport Team. She will join team-mates Aaron Scott, Lawrence Tomlinson and Simon Pullan for the first 24 hour race organised by the European Endurance and Racing Club (EERC) in the UK.
Liz Halliday said: “I am delighted to join the Beechdean team for the first Silverstone 24 Hours. This is a first in the UK and I am proud that I can be part of it. After Le Mans and Spa, Silverstone will be my third 24 hour race of the year and this is a great opportunity for me to continue the development of my career.”
“I think that we have put together an excellent team,” continued the 26-year-old American. “Beechdean is very professional, the car is well prepared and we know the E36 is competitive. I have three good team mates and if we don’t have any mechanical issues during the race, we could win our class, which is the aim.”
Racing a BMW E36 will bring back good memories for Liz. “The BMW E36 is the first car I ever raced in the UK,” she explained. “It was at Brands Hatch and Snetterton at the end of 2000 and it feels like a long time ago! I have now moved up the ladder to LMP2 and GT1 cars but it will be great to drive such a good car for a 24 hour race.”
Halliday is also delighted to race on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit: “I look forward to racing at Silverstone for 24 hours - it should be great. I am planning to test the car on Tuesday next week as soon as I am back from Mosport in Canada for the American Le Mans Series race. This is a tight schedule but I am used to it by now!”
Team owner and manager, Andrew Howard said: “Beechdean Motorsport is absolutely thrilled to have a driver of Liz Halliday’s quality joining the team for this very important race. It’s great news. Her experience in endurance racing with LMP2 and GT1 cars will be very profitable to the team. We have a great car and we have the drivers we wanted. We are well prepared for our first ever 24 hour race as a team and I hope that this will be the first of many for us. We are looking forward to an exciting race and hopefully a successful conclusion too.”
James Tucker, Managing Director of the European Endurance and Racing Club (EERC) said: “We are very pleased to have Liz Halliday back with Britcar and her roots in the UK. We hope that she does well with the Beechdean team and that she enjoys the Silverstone 24 hour race.”
