GP2 Neel Jani wins in Monza

Race 2

Neel Jani celebrated a fantastic start to finish victory at Monza, the second win for Racing Engineering in the 2005 GP2 Series. BorjaGarcia finished the race in 10th position.

After an all but satisfying Saturday, Sunday’s results have more thanmade up for the previous day. With Neel Jani starting the race fromthe front row expectations were high, and the Swiss RacingEngineering driver didn’t fail in meeting them. Celebrating his secondvictory this season, Neel and Racing Engineering are now confirmedas part of the elite of the GP2 Series. The race, however, was not aneasy one. Creating a two second gap to his followers for most of therace, Neel was under pressure from Rosberg during the last laps. But Neel was able to defend his first position brilliantly, and was thewell deserved winner of Sunday’s race.

Borja Garcia, behind the steering wheel of Racing Engineering’s carnumber 19, ran a race of permanent progress. Knowing that starting18th on the grid isn’t an easy job to do, Borja didn’t benefit at all fromthe rolling start, but nevertheless the Spaniard made up position afterposition as the race went on and finished in the top 10.

Celebrating his second victory, Neel Jani stated: “I had a really goodstart and was able to overtake Monfardini at the end of the straight. At the beginning of the race I was able to create a gap between meand the rest, and could keep that distance for the rest of the race. Mycar was much better than yesterday, and we made an importantimprovement. I am happy with my second victory in thischampionship, and I hope we can repeat this next weekend in Spa.”Borja Garcia noted after Sunday’s race:

“We didn't change the car from yesterday to today, but still I felt a lot of oversteer. This is reallystrange, and it didn't put me in a position where I could really attack. However, I started 18th and finished 10th, which isn't too bad. Butobviously it's hard to go in a race from 18th position, especially with arolling start, which made me loose quite a lot of time from thebeginning.”

Alfonso de Orleáns-Borbón added: “Awesome! The boys werefantastic for making the car work like a Swiss clock without anyproblems, and of course Neel was stunning. It became a bit tighttowards the end of the race, but at no point did I think that Neelwould give away this win. A big thank you to the entire team.”
