Having escaped the carnage on his last visit to Rockingham, Redditch’s Mike Luck wasn’t so fortunate in round nine the SCSA Championship.
After qualifying 11th out of the 16 starters, there was a mixture of optimism and disappointment. “We didn’t quite get the 36 second lap we wanted, but I had to back off towards the end of the session with a small oil leak,” he explained. “The car is more stable than it was and I realise that with almost any grid position you can get a good finish with some consistency. But I am still a bit disappointed though,” he added. As the temperature rose and the grid formed up, the race got under way with Luck completing the opening lap in 12th place behind Tony King. The field was still in fairly close formation as the second lap was nearing its conclusion. Suddenly there were yellow flags and squealing tyres as the 24:7 car piled into the wall, after being spun out by Skid Carrera (Solihull).
“I knew Skid was quick into Turn Four and kept coming, my spotter warned me. I had him covered and he gave me a touch on the rear corner, enough to unsettle the car. Round it went as he piled me into the wall. My car was badly damaged, sandwiched between his car and the wall,” he concluded.
The team now have one month to repair the car before the final rounds at Rockingham on October 2nd.
