A1 Team Malaysia colours approved

The A1 Team Malaysia racing colours have today been officially approved by A1 Grand Prix. The colours comprise a predominantly yellow car with a white engine cover and front wings with black speed lines and black front wing supports.  The yellow-black represents Malaysia's traditional sporting colours as well as the majestic tiger, Malaysia’s official animal.

The route to use yellow as the predominant colour was taken by the team as there are a number of countries participating in the A1 Grand Prix of Nations whose national flags have the same colours as Malaysia's. Our selection of the traditional sporting colours of yellow with some black as worn by our national athletes and the soccer and hockey teams is an excellent idea," said Alex Yoong. "Australia and the Netherlands have also taken the same route of using their sporting colours rather than the colours of their national flags - orange for Netherlands and green and gold for Australia."

Yellow and black have been Malaysia's national soccer team's colours since the very first Merdeka (Independence) soccer tournaments when Malaysia gained her independence from the UK in 1957. The tiger also features prominently in the Malaysian government's coat-of-arms and official symbols.

Jack Cunningham is delighted with the approval, saying, "We were reluctant to use blue and red on our car as there are so many participating teams with blue, red and white on their national flags – including Britain, USA, France, Australia and New Zealand.  We have designed a colour scheme to stand out amongst the grid and the structures at a race meeting whilst being an excellent backdrop for our partners brand logos on the cars.  I think it will work well."

"Our team clothing will also bear a close resemblance to the national team clothing of Malaysia's soccer team" added Cunningham.

Meanwhile A1 Team Malaysia is ready and primed to tackle the world in the first round of the popularly known world cup of motorsport at Brands Hatch near London in the A1 Grand Prix of Great Britain. The Malaysian composition of the team has been further enhanced with four young Malaysians being appointed to the team's technical and logistic departments to assist Alex and Fairuz in the campaign.  Details of that will be announced in the next week.
