GP2 Super Nova Spa Qualifying

In severe wet conditions the GP2 cars took to the Spa circuit yesterday, in complete contrast to the weather over the un-timed practice Thursday. The pit lane opened on time and within their first lap both Super Nova drivers were quickest, Adam Carroll in front with teammate Giorgio Pantano close behind. Three separate red flags were issued as a result of the tricky driving conditions, forcing the drivers to come into the pits, at which time both Super Nova cars were fitted with new tyres. Not able to get any clear laps, Adam and Giorgio eventually qualified consecutively in seventh and eighth position.

Bruni was quickest tin the afternoon with a time 2:14.273, followed by Premat for ART Grand Prix and Lapierre for Arden.

Giorgio Pantano 2:15.229 (P9)“I’m feeling very good, although we didn’t manage to get a clear lap. The car just stopped at the end of the session, and we don’t know what caused it, so we need to resolve this. But tomorrow’s race is long, and there is a chance to overtake here, so I’m feeling confident.”

Adam Carroll 2:15.174 (P8)

“Qualifying was very frustrating, with all the red flags it was very hard to get a clear lap in. The car felt very good, and we were fastest at the start, but unfortunately I was unable to get in another fast lap to finish the session”.

Team Principal – David Sears

“Up to the half way point of today’s qualifying Adam Carroll and Giorgio Pantano were in first and second place. Then in the very wet conditions, cars were spinning & red flags were issued, and unfortunately both Super Nova drivers could not improve on their times, and ended up in 8th & 9th positions for tomorrows race.

However the 7km Spa track is famous for fast sweeping corners and it is a track where you can overtake, so we anticipate both Super Nova drivers will provide an excellent race result tomorrow morning.”
