Saturday’s race commenced in dry conditions, and from the word go it was an event full of spins, red flags, changeable weather and excitement! Adam Carroll shot up two positions to sixth, making the most of his new engine & showing off some excellent passing skills. Unfortunately he touched a wet curb and spun on his second lap, luckily avoiding anyone else, but creating lots of smoke. This caused Giorgio Pantano among others to brake, when Yoshimoto hit Super Nova’s number 7 car on the rear wing, forcing Giorgio to pit and lose several laps while another rear wing was fitted.
Meanwhile in between rumbles of thunder & several safety cars, Adam led the race for some time. However after his late pit stop he eventually crossed the finish line in eighth, making him in pole position for tomorrows race. Giorgio, who got some very quick sector times, will start tomorrows race in 17th position.
It was Nelson Piquet Jnr who finished first, BCN’s Ernesto Viso to follow and German Nico Rosberg who took third position.
Giorgio Pantano (Not Classified)“It is always difficult to start in the middle of the grid because you get stuck in between cars, but still we got off to a good start. On the second lap Adam spun creating lots of smoke. I braked, but got hit hard by Yoshimoto at the rear wing. I had to pit and lost several laps, and then onwards the race was ended for me.”
Adam Carroll 2:09.406 (P8)“The race was tough today because of the changing weather conditions, which made it hard to decide when to pit. I thought I was going to be quick when the race settled down, so I stayed out totry and make a bigger gap, hoping that when I pitted I would be out in front. The team did a great pit stop, but there just wasn’t enough time and eventually I finished in eighth.”
Team Principal – David Sears“The race today at Spa started in dry conditions, and Adam Carroll was soon up to sixth and Giorgio Pantano in 10th place. It started to rain a little, Adam touched the curb, which must have been wet causing him to spin on one of the fastest corners, luckily without hitting anyone. Giorgio braked and backed off behind, but got hit on the rear wing, forcing him to pit to change it, during which many safety cars were issued in both wet and dry conditions.
Adam had radio problems throughout, but led the race for a while. He ended up pitting late, making him eighth place to finish, so he starts tomorrows race in pole position. Giorgio lost three places in the pits and starts in 17th tomorrow.”
