Lockie & crew 3rd in Silverstone 24 Hour

Calum Lockie and his team of co-drivers finished third in class and fifth overall in the inaugural Silverstone 24 Hour race over the weekend (10/11 September).Sharing a Chad Racing Porsche 911GT3 Cup with Andy Allen, Bo McCormick, Philip Harris and Pete James, Calum drove for six of the 24 hours to help bring the car home for an excellent result in the first 24-hour race ever held at Silverstone. The Chad Racing entry was tended by the crew from Motorbase Performance for the round-the-clock race, and ran virtually problem free through the 24 hours. "The team ran a fantastic show and the guys worked very well together," reported Calum.Testing and qualifying was a busy time, with five drivers to get through. Calum went out last in qualifying to go for a grid time, but rain started just as he warmed up for a quick lap. Nevertheless, they were 12th on the 55-car grid for the start. "That was absolutely fine for a 24-hour race," said Lockie."Our strategy was to have good reliability," said Calum. "We gelled well together and when Andy felt unwell in the night, Pete stepped in for a couple of stints. None of the guys put a foot wrong and they were all doing good times."Lockie was elected to start the race and eventually did a double-stint, driving for almost three hours with only a fuel stop mid-way through. "The re-fuelling system worked very well and we never got held up once," he said. The conditions through the first part of the race were very difficult, with heavy rain as Calum raced into the darkness of Saturday evening. Right from the start he worked through to fifth place and by the time he pitted for a driver change he was up to first in class and second overall.Into the night, the other drivers all ran strong stints in the wet and slippery conditions, although the track was drying out when Calum returned to the cockpit for the graveyard shift from 2am to 5am. "We had rotten luck with the safety car, it just worked against us," he reported. Having raced for six hours, Calum now left the other three drivers to finish the race through to 5pm on Sunday with the car crossing the line fifth overall and third in class."They got the car home very well. They all did a great job and it was a good result for us. Thanks to Andy Allen, Bo McCormick, Philip Harris, Phil James, Dave Bartrum and the guys at Chad/Motorbase for a great performance. I'd also like to thank James and the Britcar team, all the marshals and the commentary team for such a fantastic job!"
