Croft decider for Michelin Porsche Club
The 2005 Michelin Porsche Club Championship will be decided in a double-header at Croft over the weekend of 24/25 September. Currently, any one of four drivers could clinch the overall title, but it is Ian White who takes the advantage into the final two races.Having missed the title narrowly in 2004, White has set the pace all season and the Somerset racer is even more determined to make 2005 his year in the 3.2 Carrera. However, he faces a number of issues at Croft, not least a major challenge in class one from Andy Purdie (3.2 Carrera). Purdie has now won six of the last eight races and although he cannot beat White to the class crown, he could take valuable points away at Croft. The biggest challenge to White for the overall title comes from the class two pack, where Tom Segrue (944S2), Marcus Carniel (911SC) and Frazer Robertson (944S2) are all in the running for the overall title. The class two racers have a further advantage over White, as a bonus points system based on the number of starters in the class will favour the popular class two over class one at Croft. Numerically, Segrue and Carniel are the major rivals to White for the overall crown and with scores to be dropped, the calculations are many and varied! Robertson, who lives within 10 minutes of the Croft circuit, will be firmly on home ground and, though he is the class two outsider, has been busy catching up recently after missing four races. Even if he cannot claim the championship spoils, Robertson will be going all out for class two victory. The same applies to Richard Lambert (Carrera 3), the out-going champion. Lambert has missed some races this season, so cannot challenge for the title, but will be all-out for victory at his favourite track. In July, Richard made his Carrera Cup debut at Croft, which was his reward for winning the 2004 Club Championship.Meanwhile, the 911SC of Ben Demetriou is now unbeatable at the head of class three, with Chris Stewart (911E) and Neil Harvey (924 Turbo) leading the chase.
