The Lister Storm GT was performing brilliantly at the FIA GT race in Istanbul yesterday until the suspension failed due to an earlier contact with a Ferrari.
Justin started the race, gaining several places at the start which he lost when he had to take emergency action to avoid a spinning Maserati – but there was no contact and he continued in 11th position. He moved up to 9th and was catching the leaders when the Safety Car was called out – he came into the pits and handed over to Liz to complete her mandatory 35 minutes.
The team strategy was excellent – after all the stops the Storm was 3rd overall. With 20 minutes remaining for Liz to drive, the Safety Car was called in; unfortunately during this time one of the Ferraris hit the rear corner of the Storm – and it was this that decided the outcome of the race.
Liz returned to the pits shortly after one hour – once again an excellent stop by the Lister team – the fastest to fuel and change tyres – and Justin was back in the car. Once again he was among the fastest on track but with 20 minutes to go the rear suspension failed – and the Storm was out of the race.
A long journey home to the UK before a quick turn around to fly the car out to China for the next round of the Championship at Zhuhai.
