Jordans podium in 2nd racing weekend
Andrew Jordan scored a podium finish in only his second weekend of racing as he competed in the AVO Ginetta Championship races at Mondello Park (17/18 September).Despite racing against far more experienced rivals, 16-year old Andrew finished third in the first race and then battled back to fourth in the later race after a first corner delay. It was a fantastic performance from Andrew, despite the fact that he suffered food poisoning during the weekend and had little sleep on Saturday night.Andrew demonstrated his natural speed by setting the pace in free practice amongst the 16-car Ginetta field. In qualifying on the tricky Irish track, he posted second fastest time behind 2005 champion Matt Nichol-Jones.In the scramble to the first corner in the opening race, Andrew lost out and was edged down to seventh place. Undaunted, he pushed hard and fought his way back to finish third, setting second fastest race lap in the process to claim his first racing podium result. The grid was then reversed for the second race, leaving Andrew starting near the back of the field. Things got even worse at the first corner as another car spun and Andrew had to take to the grass to avoid the spinning car. He lost a lot of time getting back onto the circuit, but once again started a determined charge up the order. He caught and passed a number of very experienced drivers to finally reach fourth place at the flag and set the race fastest lap in the process."To be on the podium in his second ever race meeting is very impressive," said his father Mike. "He didn't spin and didn’t put a mark on the car all weekend."Andrew Jordan is supported by John Guest, Team Dynamics, Bill Gwynne Rally School and Pirtek.
