Damax give Avon GT tyre its race debut

British GT team Damax gave the new Avon GT tyre its debut at Brands Hatch in the TAG250 race for GT sportscars. Aaron Scott and Rod Carmen shared the teams Ferrari 360 and gave Avon some valuable feedback ahead of their entry into the 2006 British GT Championship where all teams will run on the tyre. The drivers qualified in 18th and 16th places overall for the 2 races, 12th and 10th in the GT3 class. For Rod Carmen this was to be his 'GT' debut after racing in the Porsche Open and Ginetta Championships in recent years. Rod started the race and drove well on his debut, lapping consistently. Aaron finished the race and duly took the flag in 15th place overall and 10th in the GT3 class.Aaron said, " We have been working really hard with Avon and the new tyres. At the moment the tyre isn't producing as much grip as the Dunlop but, by running, the tyre for the duration of the 45 minute race we have given Avon some useful feedback. I am very impressed with the commitment they have shown to GT racing and feel certain that the tyre will improve by the start of next season. "For Sundays 2nd 45 minute race Aaron started the race and climbed quickly up the order into 10th place overall, 7th of the GT3 runners and lapping at a quick pace. However at the start of the 7th lap the engine blew forcing an early retirement. Aaron said, " We were going very well in the 2nd race and I am sure we would have had a fantastic result had we finished the race. The car was working very well - we don't know what caused the engine failure, there was no warning and, having looked at the data, no reason for it. It's disappointing for the team who have worked very hard this weekend and gave us a great car today. "Aaron's next race will be the final round of the British GT Championship at Silverstone with the Damax team on October 8 & 9.
