Scott takes V8 Stock Car World Final

The mighty V8 Stock Cars settled their World Championship at Wimbledon Stadium on September 25th with a powerful show of force from the American V8 powered cars.

With a grid comprised of the formulae’s top pilots and star V8 racer   Peter Scott, 98 on pole position the scene was set for a bruising and action-packed race.

The front bumpers went in with gusto in the opening stage of the race, leading to Colin Goodswen, 72 and Darren Mitchell, 238 finding themselves buried in the safety fence. The race was halted as the drivers desperately tried to fix their battered cars to rejoin the race.

The full grid of 21 cars duly lined up and once again Peter Scott stormed into the lead. Goodswen heavily challenged Scott and a mighty battle broke out between the two for the first position. As the race wore on Goodswen had to retire due to problems from his earlier crash into the safety fence.

Russ Williams, 28 took up the chase for first place before falling prey to a well-timed charge from 31, Robert Harris. As Williams spun out 227, ‘Titch’ Gardener took up second place and chased the front running Scott through the back markers until the chequered flag fell, giving the V8 World Championship to Scott, with Gardener in second and 29, Mark Williams in third.

The other title race on the night for the Lightning Rods European Championship was won in fine style by 416, Diggy Smith, who drove an exemplary race to finish ahead of 517,Carl Wheeler and 329, George Morphy.
