FRUK Testing boost for Bratt
Will Bratt enjoyed a superb debut outing on the world famous 2.4-mile Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit yesterday morning during official Formula Renault UK Championship with Michelin testing, ahead of the weekend’s final two rounds of the 2005 season. The 17-year-old Bloxham School academic, from Adderbury in Oxon, has been getting ever nearer the top 10 on the timesheets as his first season of single-seater racing has progressed, and at the conclusion of this morning’s four hour test he finished the session 13th overall and fastest of the B4 Group Graduate Cup runners. His best lap of 1m 24.985 seconds (102.63mph) saw Will end the test just seven 10ths of a second outside the quickest time and faster than vastly more experienced single-seater rivals such as Tom Kimber-Smith, Rodolfo Gonzalez and Patrick Hogan. He was also third fastest through the speed trap and one of only eight cars to top 132mph.Speaking on his first ever experience of the Brands Hatch GP track, Will said: “I’m absolutely delighted with our performance today and I think we can take a lot of positives into the weekend.“We ran inside the top six or seven cars for a large part of the session and although we couldn’t quite remain inside the top 10, we’re very pleased with our pace and confident there’s more to come in qualifying on Saturday.“The changes we made to the car today have worked well, they’ve been very positive, and it’s a realistic aim for us to gun for a top 10 grid slot in both of this weekend’s rounds. Qualifying has been the bug-bear all season but with the pace we’ve shown in testing this morning, we can approach things with a very strong mind-set.”The 19th and 20th rounds of the season mark the final chance for Will to strive for a top 10 finish in his maiden season of Formula Renault UK competition, having come very close on several occasions this year.Furthermore, while Will’s chances of title glory in the Graduate Cup are mathematically slim, chief rival Richard Keen was unable to match his pace in testing so anything at all is possible.Qualifying for round 19 is scheduled to commence at 09.00 on Saturday, 1st October, with round 20 qualifying set to begin at 13.30. The first of the weekend’s Formula Renault UK races will start at 16.50 on Saturday, while the final round of the season will take place at 15.35 on Sunday, 2nd October. Will Bratt Championship Position:B4 Group Graduate Cup Class – 2nd overallFormula Renault UK Championship with Michelin – 15th overall
