QUALIFYING SMASH LEAVES LUCK ON THE SIDELINES
Following a heavy smash last time out, the 24:7 Motorsport crew worked against the clock to ready the beta tools backed car for the Rockingham SCSA finale. But a power steering failure during qualifying left Redditch driver Mike Luck helpless as the car plunged into the wall at Turn One.
“We ran the car for the first time since the rebuild on Saturday morning, getting used to new settings and had a few minor problems. “he explained.
21 laps were completed in the free practice session, getting down to a 39.568 second lap averaging over 134mph for 12th best time. “We felt fairly confident for qualifying and I was one of the first cars out. It was going well,” he added.
With a 37.882 second lap after only couple of laps, Mike was feeling upbeat. “On the fifth lap into Turn one something blew off the power steering, it was heading for the wall and I was running out of road rapidly. I waited for the inevitable hit which wasn’t too bad. As I sat contemplating my spotter screamed that Phil Weaver had lost it and he t boned the back of my car heavily. The cars a mess, I just got a few aches and pains and was left to entertain the guests off the track rather than on,” he concluded.
