Quaife set for 2006 Carrera Cup

Phil Quaife is the latest driver to confirm plans to contest the 2006 Porsche Carrera Cup GB. Quaife made his championship debut with Motorbase Performance at Brands Hatch over the weekend (1/2 October) as a lead in towards a planned full programme in 2006.“My main target is to do the Carrera Cup next year with the new car,” says Quaife, who has split his 2005 programme between the Radical Enduro and British GT Championships. He plans to remain with the Motorbase team in 2006 as part of its Carrera Cup squad, which could run to as many as four cars.Quaife, who will celebrate his 20th birthday shortly before the start of the 2006 season, raced karts for two years before moving into Radicals in 2003. “We’re certainly looking towards 2006,” confirmed Phil’s father Mike. “Motorbase is a good team to work with.”At the weekend, Quaife ran well on the pace in his first experience of Michelin tyres and finished tenth in the first race before retiring early in the second race with a damaged radiator. The opening Brands race also marked his first ever standing start.
