Under the direction of Penske Motorsports, Porsche rolls out its next generation, state-of-the-art LMP2 prototype as it prepares for its 2006 assault on the ALMS circuit.World class drivers Sascha Maassen and Lucas Luhr pilot the Penske Porsche.Maassen and Luhr won the ALMS GT2 championship in 2002 and 2003.
Three of the four class championships are still up for grabs - LMP2, GT1 and GT2.In LMP2, Clint Field leads Guy Cosmo and Jamie Bach (ALMS' Rookies of theYear) by 22 points. In GT1, Corvette Racing has wrapped up the Manufacturers title but it remains to be seen which of the Corvettes will win the title. #4 Corvette driven by Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta (known as the 2 "Ollies") leads sister car #3 of Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell, the defending champions, by 15 points. With 23 points available to the Laguna winner, Fellows and O'Connell still have a chance.
In GT2, the privateer team of Petersen White Lightning (Patrick Long and Jorg Bergmeister) holds a 22-point lead over Alex Job Racing's factory Porsche #23 team of Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas (156 vs. 134).
In LMP1, Champion Audi drivers Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro dethroned defending champions JJ Lehto and Marco Werner (also of Champion Racing) with a win at Petit Le Mans Oct. 1.
