Jaime Alguersuari joins Red Bull Juniors

Junior Alguersuari  (15) wins one of the 4 places in the world selection of the Red Bull Junior Team

Red Bull organised a selection test for young drivers for their motosport programme aimed towards Formula 1, the Red Bull Junior Team, on Monday and Tuesday at the Circuit of Estoril (Portugal).

22 drivers from all over the World, especially from the English-speaking Countries, attended this unique event in Portugal, organised by the famous Austrian-based energy beverage company. 

The surprise came when young Spaniard Jaime Alguersuari, at the age of 15, was invited to attend the selection on the second and final day.

Alguersuari Jr. had to complete 8 qualifying laps on a completely unknown track in a completely unknown single-seater, the Formula BMW.

After completing the 8 flying laps the Catalan driver lapped the fastest lap amongst the 22 selected drivers. Mr Helmut Marko and Indycar ace Danny Syllivan.

At 14h00, a Red Bull spokesman announced the 4 selected drivers for the Red Bull Junior Team 2006 - 2010.

- Brendon Hardly, New Zealander (16) (10.11.1989)

- Jaime Alguersuari, Spanish (15) (23.03.1990)

After Jaime Alguersuari's strong drive, he continued his training behind the wheel of a Formula 3 Euroseries car, from Team  Mücke Motorsport, as well as some laps with a  Formula Renault 2.0 from Team  Motopark Oschersleben.

Alguersuari and Red Bull are currently evaluating the 2006 racing programme - between the Formula BMW-Adac Championship, and an option with the Italian Formula Renault 2.0 championship, including the European Formula Renault 2.0.

Red Bull has signed a contract with the young Spaniard until 2010.
